DUKE NUKEM TEASER
Ten years later we are still waiting.

Posted by on Dec 31, 2007 00:56 (Dec 31, 2007 00:56)

As many of you may already know, Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for over ten years. Its changed engines more then two times, changed art styles, some even think it may have even been canceled on more then one occasion. Recently developer 3D Realms has broken the incredibly long silence with a brand new teaser trailer for the long awaited game. This marks the first teaser trailer, or any kind of footage whatsoever from them on the subject for over 6 years!

The first thing fans will notice is it’s clearly, and yet again, on a brand new game engine. As soon as the video hit the web critics picked it apart as best they could. There was a huge uproar that this teaser footage was not in game and that resulted in angry fans questioning why they should even care about the teaser if no real footage was shown. 3D Realms was quick to rectify this and many emails were shot out to all the major gaming sites clarifying that the footage is, in fact, all in game. Many find this hard to believe still, as the trailer starts off with a very well rendered Duke lifting weights with his trademark cigar and glasses. If it is in-game graphics, it’s certainly very impressive.

By the looks of what little footage was in the trailer, fans can expect the return of “pig cops” and the flying “Octabrains” from Duke 3D. The engine appears very organic and displays the characters and environments with very rich detail. The viewer is then treated to a very quick flash of what appears to be a new type of enemy that can only be described as snake like. The screen then fades back to Duke who cracks his knuckles and says “I’m looking for some alien toilet to park my bricks, who’s first?” It looks like Duke has all that it had over ten years ago, Adult humor, what appears to be a Mature rating and the quick wit of the over the top protagonist Mr. Duke Nukem himself.

Many, including myself are still disillusioned with the ridiculously long time the game is taking to complete. Some even believe 3D Realms is just content playing some kind of sick and incredibly long practical joke on all of its fans. Most would agree that this is rubbish and would be a very foolish move on their part, but after ten years one has to question what they have been doing all this time. It looks like this new version of Duke Nukem Forever will be aiming for a 2008 release. The engine looks fantastic, the substance looks to be there, but don’t hold your breath until some more concrete information arises on the title.
