Players will find 3 new weapons to punish their enemies with. There is a grenade launcher that is essentially useless in almost all situations. A lightning gun that can leap to other enemies after initial contact, but lacks a reasonable amount of ammunition in the maps and, there is also a new assault rifle with a scope that magnifies light sources. Of the three, the new assault rifle is always the most useful, however it feels boring because F.E.A.R already has a number of assault rifles in the game and none are really all that memorable. It’s like getting the same gun over and over again with slight sound and graphical differences, they all kill pretty much the same.
Now some of you may think I’m digging on the title. Believe it or not, I was a fan of the original F.E.A.R. This expansion does offer some merit though, especially to people that could not get enough of the original game. Enemy artificial intelligence is as smart and clever as ever and will challenge you almost every step of the way. A new enemy introduced in the later levels, the nightcrawler, is fun to battle and difficult to defeat. It can climb walls, dodge your bullets and throws grenades at you, though I personally think it can take far to much damage. If you loved the original, only want more of the same and don’t mind the aging engine, this is the game for you. If you are looking for a worthwhile, well thought out expansion, you are better off purchasing a game that is a bit more updated and can offer a story worth getting into.
