The DSI which will hit the US sometime in 2009, will be region locked, which is a big step in the other direction, as the original DS and DS Lite are region-free. A Nintento of Europe spokesperson dropped the bomb earlier today, saying that standard Nintendo DS software can be played regardless of the region of the device, but any software which is DSi specific will only be able to played on a DSi of the same region. This will include software released through the DS store, and later on in cartridge format.
